The Diary Project

2022
July

I am white. I am always white. I also always win. Always.
We saved The Chess Game prior to moving.
But no move has been made since.

2022_07_july

I am not in a writing/documenting mood. There are things that need doing. And I am the doer.

Tooth: Abscess? I hit it with salt (a pinch between the cheek and gum... or rather, under the tongue on top of the effected area) and took a mega-dose of B-12, along with a multivitamin. It seems to be on the wane and wasn't painful, just an unexpected swollen lump.

{The Abscess cleared up a day or two later, which I attribute to the salt, B-12, and an acceptance of fate.}

Maybe, I should write down my tomorrow to-dos. Yeah, I've never liked how that word looks.

TD (to-do): Cookbooks (to shelf: yes (well, by Darling, but it counts) . Books (in workshop, stack): yes. Desk (from lab to workshop, requires dismantling): yes.

Today, I moved (from the store to the back of the kitchen wall) 12-60lb Sandbags. I'm beat. That and filling two rows of books (from box to shelf, no sorting) is all I really did today... which is a lie. I, also, did a bit of group food shopping and some compost work.

2x6@60lb {2 trips consisting of 6 bags at 60lb each}: shelf to cart, cart to checkout to car, car to wheelbarrow, up grade to backyard (rises a story), and wrestle into place. The basement has water issues, which this could (hopefully) help.

The microwave, which came with the house, takes a perverse joy in turning the handle to my hot chocolate mug away from me.

Learn a House.
Read a Lawn.

Preliminary Sandbag Results are Promising.

TD: Tile Table to Plant Corner (did just now, the dangers of making a list). Detach Water Hoses from Washing Machine (fairly straightforward). Plan Workshop (not so much). Kitchen/Salon light sort (light... maybe more to come). And that will be a day. Fry Hamburger for Chili.

Gads. Money is just flying out the door.

Oh, hey. Have I mentioned how The House came with a bunch of extras like a Riding Lawn Mower, Snow Blower, Complete Extra Kitchen Cabinet Set (currently unused in Lab), a few Garden Tools, and a Fastener Collection. That Fastener Collection is really handy. A Curtain Rod failed, today. But I found suitable replacement screws likity-split.

Gads (the word of the day), but I'm tired.

D (Do/Did, as opposed to TD): Move Chair (unceremoniously, first thing; my thought-comment back when I thought this was a TD).

Our weeds (sorry, native plants) are Shoulder High by The Fourth of July.

TD: Transplant Fern/Carrot-Top Plant in Driveway to Pot (poor little guy... um, I'm told it might be ragweed, oh well). Kitchen Towel Hooks (hook not hooks, good for now). Add Elbow to Driveway Downspout (did this in a few places, prior to moving on to cleaning out the gutters, so an intensive little project). Move two Chairs from Back Porch to Garage for Tornado Watch Times (done).

A Lightning Strike at Midnight to mark My Birthday. Really close. And it sounded like something (tree or limb) fell. Glad it wasn't near/on us.

Could've been The Dead Pine.

Let us say that is how it could've gone. Good thing we cut it down.

Fun-Deep talk w/ The County Accessor.

TD: Sort/Store Lighting Accessory Box (nope). Fix that one flickering bulb in The Kitchen Track Lighting (no). Clean/Investigate Bathroom Fan (nada). Computer Work (some, maybe enough, considering how late it is). Cellar (no, and I'm not even going to bother with a list for The 'Morrow)? DH (acquired).

{I will have to do a deep dive into The Kitchen Track Lighting. Not all the bulbs stay lit. It's likely a electrical contact problem of some sort. Oh, also, I am in Humid Country. And I've found humidity greatly effects questionable electrical connections... say, at the point where fluorescent tubes connect to their fixtures, as can be found throughout The Workshop & Lab.}

If they wanted, they could use seismic-graphs (i.e. vibrations) to track my movement throughout the house (lawn... at least while on connected hard-enough lawn-scape)... probably voice through the walls (and same). Certainly, they can bounce laser-light off of a {inherently reflective} glass window and measure the resultant frequency shift (once again, gifting an eavesdropper with Tone & Text). But I wonder what transmits through the {ever-present} electrical hard-wiring. Given access to Source and Ground, what can one say about The Load? And The Theoretical Limits, thereof?

D: Chess Set (carrying on the same game from before). Smoke Detectors. Explore Flat Roof... it's not looking good, bummer.

D: Assemble (our old, so reassemble) Guest Bed. Sort Salon. Sort Crow's Nest (computers/office). It doesn't sound like much. But it's been five easy hours, interspersed with (so, included in that total are) many a break and leisurely conversation. And then, I Prepped for a Dehumidifier (the aforementioned DH), which just arrived; and which accounts for another 1.5 Hours of Labour (of love), as everything leads to something else... or at least, needs to be got out of the way.

Today (where I am, at least) {The Weather} is very reminiscent of Hawaii: Hilo-Side... overcast, warm, and wet.

D: Track Lighting and Box from the other day.

{Yeah, I "fixed" the lighting... for a few hours or days. But it's back to where I started. The connections are temper-mental.}

20-1034: The case is familiar, probably the second time The Court has seen it. I didn't care the first time. I still don't care the second time.

20-1114: Seems straightforward enough to me.

20-1263: Live by The State, Die by The State.

20-1573: Consent (true consent) is not possible between parties of differing power. Since it is the more powerful party (almost universally), which inserts any forced arbitration clause (certainly in cases where preset contracts are demanded to be used as a condition of doing business), blanket enforcement of arbitration is blanket enforcement of the more powerful over the weak. It is The Coward's Way.

20-1775: Cowards!

20-7622: But perhaps, all such sentences should run concurrently.

21-147: I have it on good authority, "mess with the bull and you get the horns."

21-234: Just not important.

21-309: Can we all just agree that arbitration was a bad idea, indicative of a faltering legal system and just move on?

21-441: Bankruptcy has always been a bad idea. Money, too. But whatever. As to debts, I would make them all voluntary... or at least, un-actionable. Of course, any system is subject to abuse by the dishonourable (a condition that seems to spread, dishonour begetting dishonour). So, there likely is no fix, you know, as long as the rich are willing to take from the poor.

Wealth & Poverty being two sides (equal and opposing) of the same coin.

21-5726: First, let us be absolutely clear, it was not the petitioner (but rather, their legal counsel), who failed to be timely, as it is unlikely petitioner (as is true for practically all petitioners... and likely, in the strictest sense, most all lawyers) comprehended the legal nuances involved. And thus, it is highly unfair to deny justice based upon such a technicality.

21-5726: In other news, I just don't care.

19-1392: As a legal issue, I do not believe abortion is a right The Constitution protects. Of course, this should not be so surprising; for in its original state, The Constitution explicitly allowed slavery.

19-1392: The far more important right is The Right to Reproduce.

19-1392: I read none of the opinions nor arguments. This has been covered

Blood, Sweat, & Tears: I cut my pinkie (giving it a sort of rope-burn laceration) pulling fescue {i.e. some tall grass}.

A Bug hasn't hit the windshield all summer long. It is officially The End Times.

Hell isn't so bad after you've been in Heaven awhile.

20-603: The long arm of the law.

20-843: Cause for one is cause for all.

And that's enough of that, this morning.

20-1088: What's good for the goose is good for the gander. The Decision is in keeping with my understanding of the underlying rule of thumb.

20-1312: Don't Care.

20-1410: Mens rea is not a meaningful/reliable standard. Rather, should a person in their position have known the action was questionable? If so, that's all the proof I need.

20-1459: Going around in circles, because the legal terms in question have never been (and likely, never will be) definitively defined.

20-1530: The Dissent not withstanding, The EPA clearly overstepped its authority.

I walk around the yard barefoot. If I step on something unpleasant (usually a weed or stick), I check it out, handling as appropriate. Today, I found a piece of rebar. "Fine, I'll dig it out," I think. 2+' and hours to match (more than match) and that rebar is still there, going nowhere, holding up nothing. {Weeks later, I used an angle grinder to cut it off a foot or so below grade.}

20-1641: The Dissent is correct (wholly and completely) for the reasons stated.

Eventually, all elves sail to The West.

The Dishwasher has a dishwasher.

Um... nah, nah, na-nah, nah.

How long does it take rebar to decompose underground?
//?

When is the best time to harvest hardwood (red bud is the species in question)?
//winter

TD: Winter Coat Bar (this, but nada else). Cut Rebar. Sharpen Shears. Shave Drawers Down.

Hey. Today was fun. Scrap Wood goes into a Coverless Garbage Can, while Scrap Metal will go into a Double Boxed Bin.

RUNE: Primarily because my shorts sag and can't take the extra weight (almost every pair) but also because there is little need, I have stopped carrying around Runes. Dice & O-Pal had become my favourites, by far.

20-1650: The War on Drugs is/was ill-conceived. We (or at least, I) do not live in a just society.

21-248: I am not nor have I ever been "adequately represented", a statement which I believe holds true for the overwhelming majority.

21-404: In which it comes to pass that a "law" just means any governmental rule enacted by legislation. It's a low bar. And there are far too many of them.

Redbud Seeds?

21-418: I'm all for The Government out of Religion and Religion out of The Public Sphere... but it's really not possible, as Religion informs Morality, which informs Proper Conduct in The Public Sphere, which informs The Law.

21-418: Does the activity require consent? Is the activity an imposition?

21-429: Turf War!

21-439: I will posit that Murder is wrong; and therefore, The Death Penalty is wrong... if for no other reason than its prohibition forces society to seek a better alternative.

House Maintenance (a killed note file, whose sole entry reads): Winterize: Spigots (turn off and insulate).

MCPP (another file heading towards the bin): Glaucoma, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), --- - Med; Grow Kit, 4" Inline Duct Fan leading to 4" Pipe filled with Activated Carbon.

21-499: Miranda (like most Civil Procedures) should be taught in Elementary School (thus, negating the need for any reminder), the failure to do so (along with the failure to teach any other Societal Norms) is an indication of the failure of The Educational System in question.

21-499: It is the obligation of any Just Legal System to be more honourable than the society in which it operates, not less.

21-511: Who decides what constitutes evidence? Should not the jury be wholly in charge of this? Going so far as to be able to request specific evidence not yet presented?

21-954: "This land is your land. This land is my land." Everywhere! All The Time! Though, we do need Care Takers w/ Final Authority. And implementing that last is the real trick.

I need to start doing rounds.

TD: Check Balance. This is as good as place as any to write the reminder. I'll see it in a few days for sure when I proofread. {It's good... for now.}

Music from my headphones, as I enjoy the neighbour's fire: i.e. The Sweet Smells of Summer.

TD: PVC. I've never worked with PVC before. Looks sort of straightforward. But I suck at measuring. So, we'll see.

Red DR stands for Drain. Two Sinks. Blue Waste Drain. Grey marks possible locations for Dishwasher Nipple. Top being the most likely.

Days later and it looks like the PVC is holding; though, there are other problems...
