FILE_NAME: Festivals {Prior to this} WRITTEN: 2020-02-15 {When email sent} ARCHIVED: 2020-05-27 {When transcribed to this format} (c) Copyright Brett Paufler {Me} # # # # # # # # # # # # # # {As per Burning Man or Psychopathy, I was going to do a write-up after reading some articles. These are my abandoned running notes.} # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Festivals First item, advert for advertising at festivals. A short guide. Second, the costs and risks involved. Financial success is not assured. Third, industry report. Massive. Truly massive. I like the comparison of being on par with Winter Olympics or Formula 1. This is a winner, there will be losers. OK. The above comparison is crap. Don't use. Still, massive. Virtual... it's how I do it. Worth upwards of 10 billion... not quite. how to measure... begin, end, crossover. Live performances being the lions share. Half. Maybe. Coachella. Info. Fact cheat. A lot like burning man presentation to BLM. But probably third party. Um, going to say for the Planning Committee. {I'm guessing that's the primary audience.} Let's say $750 mill (secondary impact, total influx to the region) from 200,000 attendees rounded rough numbers. {I certainly would not rely on these numbers for anything.} Paying maybe $1000 for tickets. Some of the 750 {million} comes from this 200, no doubt. 100,000 {attendees} per day. Artists have non-compete radius clauses... 3 month before... 3 month after... artists can't play Southern California. Is this good or bad? The question is asked. Definitely for "The Coachella 2019 Planning Committee". Used to use lots of Burning Man Art. Interesting. A Time-Line comparison to Burning Man would be interesting. (And/or Molly, the rite of spring break as rite of passage). I'd say art is secondary. I wonder if it {the art} is only to stay at some level of parity with Burning Man. Youth Centric. 600 acres. [Quoted Information Redacted] {I tend to surround these out-takes in any notes with "", so I know the words are lifted and can be quoted or discarded as appropriate.} 600 acres. Hotel packages available. Also, VIP tents at $10k or so. I'm sure if I were a paying customer, such differentiations would annoy me (I would have contempt {envy and/or exclude} those travelling First Class), but I'm not a customer. Cars searched on entry to parking. Whatever the kids want. That's the style. Whatever is trending. {The musical selection process from what I could infer. The intent is to get a line-up the kids want to see rather than push some notion of cool or style.} Blue Tooth Scanners to track festival attendees. {This was the purpose of the Thesis I was reading. And from there, determine clumping/interacting behaviour.} An advantage of my research technique {how I look for articles}, I get hits like this. (A similar find for Sturgis was the report on counting crowds). Turn off.. or on.., as per your want. Phone on airport mode. Apps. I use a tracker. But I meant a Festival app {as a better solution}. Multi modal tracking. And track info requests. Purchases. Location wifi, bluetooth, gps. Free 60+, 10- at this festival. {This was a while back. I am going to guess this meant 60+ receivers picking up bluetooth from less than ten meters away, comprising the raw data}. Denmark. ROSKILDE FESTIVAL. [Redacted Comment regarding Morality of Data Collection: It's Anonymous.] Mostly a couple or buddy/friend event {my conclusion}. Groups over triplets rare. Though, this is because cut off was at .5 occurrences. A six group that was fluid, would not meet the cut off. I'd be interested at .25, as well. Sloppiness that should be avoided in future research. Really, should have got batteries and placed readers at corners or per plan {in a grid}. Not catch as catch can. The math is beyond me. Some folks show up for one day, stay at same stage, and similar pointless observations. In the end, fun with maths and technology. {The node-line graphs were fun.} {The above was a fun thesis and worth the read. Take any comments with a grain of salt. They were intended as a means to an end, rather than an end... so, they are notes intended to jog my memory.} NEA National Endowment for the Arts Money taken from me by force. FU! Well, I liked those stats. Stopped Reading {Part of my overall desire is to push everything to the top... if it's not current, it is not. And it is time to move on. After three months, these notes mean little.}
