And I can expand into the Southern Continent... or at least make contact at an early age. I should be able to steal that Iron Island from Korea if nothing else. # # # 2018-11-05 4000BC T0 Ah! I had forgotten about that westward migration. I need that wheat. Warrior to the hill. Settlers a tile West. And we found Paris on the next turn. I think I will name the cities this game. So, there will be a lot of 'Paris Founded' or however they say that in the logfile. 2018-11-05 3960BC T1 Ragnarok has been founded! The Ice Lords be served! Building: Worker -> Stonehenge (maybe) Researching: Mysticism -> Masonry -> Animal Husbandry As great as an early religion would be, I do not believe I would win the race. And though I am obviously content to reload time and time again, I don't want to reload because I lost a (single) race or a battle. 3360BC: Buddhism was founded, so I would have lost that race. Of course, even though I like Buddhism better (it is the superior Real World religion), in game Hinduism -> Judaism is the better research path. But come on! I ain't got time for that nonsense. 3120BC: Hinduism was founded, I would have won that race. Maybe if Hinduism switched places on the research path with Buddhism, I would be keen on it (that, what it had switched to and become: i.e. Buddhism, leading to Judaism). 2880BC: Animal Husbandry is in. I have time. I think I will make the play for Judaism. First stop, Polytheism. 2720BC: Stonehenge is in. Turns out the second worker was not needed. I have lost little from working unimproved tiles. Really, nothing that I would not have lost anyhow from building a second worker. {Either way, second worker or not, I was going to spend time working unimproved tiles; and once the second worker landed, the first worker would be improving tiles ahead of the population curve.} The Pyramids are way (way-way-way) more important than The Great Wall, so I will start on that next. Depending on whether I pursue a religion or not, The Great Lighthouse/Colossus comes next... or a few worker/settlers. 2480BC: No one has claimed Judaism. I will go for it. I do not know what I will do if it is discovered mid-way through my research. 2120BC: I am building roads instead of mines with my one lone worker, so going for Judaism is having a negative impact. I need to win this race or the lost time will really hurt. 2000BC: one turn until Monotheism lands. The pressure is on. I can feel it. I won't say this is intense. I mean, it is but on a subtle level. Not so intense I can't write. But, boy! Would it suck if someone snagged Judaism from me now! # # # 2018-11-05 1960BC T51 Judaism Landed! And the people rejoice. So, since we are talking the One True God, here. It's probably one of the Ice Lords... not really sure which one. I will let them decide. That Star of David thing? Obviously an Ice Crystal. They have six sides, you know. One for every day it took -0- to make the world. Researching: Mining -> Fishing -> Sailing After that, it's either Pottery or Bronze Working, depending upon what my land looks like. I feel good. Winning that religious race was important... as are all early races. A mid-game loss of a second run wonder is not important, the gold makes up for it. But founding Judaism will be worth thousands of gold over the course of the game. And more importantly, will allow me to back burner all the other religions... if I want to. Oh, The Pyramids will be completed in two turns. Like I've said millions of times before. The AI does not value The Pyramids nearly as highly as I do. 1880BC: The Pyramids are in. I will try for The Great Wall. I want to grow... at least one turn... actually a few more than that, as my warrior is returning from exploring and my happiness with increase then. So, anyhow, I want to grow and The Great Wall's Espionage Points will come in handy... +12 if I remember correctly. Actually, I don't think that is right. It's +12 for the Great Spy if you settle them. Anyway, awaiting better builds from Fishing and Sailing, so building a wall... The Great Wall. Nope, I changed my mind. The Temple of Artemis is timed right (at about 18 turns), so it will come in when I want to start working on a Lighthouse -> The Great Lighthouse. And the free Priest Specialist will be worth way more to me than no barbarians (none on this map) and +100% Great General Emergence Within Cultural Borders, as I'm hoping to never fight a war on my home turf. The Temple of Artemis it is. Oh, also, The Temple of Artemis give +2 Great Merchant Points, which is nice, as I will need at least one Great Merchant for Sid's Sushi before all is said and done. 1280BC: The Temple of Artemis is in. One turn for a revolution into the religion of The Knowing Ice Crystal (or whatever I shall mentally regard Judaism as) and then it's a three turn build for The Great Wall, which I am going for... because why not? I take it back, two turns for The Great Wall, after the revolution and the population pop that prompted it. Yowza! 1240BC: I got The Great Wall. I think it's time I built a settler and got a second city under way. I should be able to sneak one in before working on a lighthouse... hey, which means I can postpone Pottery for a few more turns. 1080BC: Confucianism founded in a distant land. I wonder if I am falling behind on account of not having more cities? 900BC: The first thing I will build in Sheep Head Pt is a settler. 725BC: I messed up in that it will take me two turns to revolt into three new civics. I lost maybe fifty beakers not changing into Representation back when I got both Judaism and The Pyramids. I was foolishly waiting for Bronze Working. Of course, for the most, I'd been thinking of revolting into Slavery and Representation. Organized Religion is an afterthought... and explains the error in thought. Also, I wasn't sure if changing three civics would result in a one or two turn revolution. I am not using my Great Prophet to launch a Golden Age and save the time, as I want him to found a shrine. # # # 2018-11-05 150BC T109 I lost the race for The Colossus. So, very literally I believe, I traded Judaism for The Colossus. The Colossus is a huge loss. As it is probably fifty beakers a turn, maybe close to a hundred a turn, when I finally get my island states online. On the other hand, I can research Astronomy more or less with impunity now. Still, it hurts. Let me mourn the loss. I'm going to figure an average of 25 beakers per turn for the next 125 turns. It's a massive blow... too massive. I will be reloading. Yeah, I would have reloaded if I lost The Pyramid race, as well. With some degree of conservatism, I want to have: Oracle by 1500BC Colossus by 500BC If I use the Oracle to get Metal Casting, that would work. Research: Mysticism -> Polytheism (if Hinduism Available, The Wind God) -> Animal Husbandry -> Masonry -> Monotheism (if no religion) -> Priesthood -> Fishing -> Sailing -> Um, if I weren't going for a religion: Animal Husbandry -> Mysticism -> See what religions land Maybe Mining... ah, so many choices. # # # Eh, calling it a night. I will start over, tomorrow. The guiding principles: 3360BC: Buddhism 3120BC: Hinduism 1960BC: Judaism (me) 1360BC: Oracle 300BC: Colossus I can get (settle) one city for free. And with The Great Lighthouse (and more so with The Colossus), island cities turn a profit. # # # 2018-11-05 (c) Copyright Brett Paufler
