NAME: Olympics DATE: 2021-07-11 ARCHIVED: 2021-09-16 (c) Copyright Brett Paufler # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Both The Olympics and This Note File were Non-Events. So, please, let me go on for awhile in a disjointed unorganized fashion about what I had envisioned. And from there, if one so desired, I am sure they could reconstruct any notes I might have made if I had actually made them and they were here. First, I do not care about The Olympics. I did as a kid, when the endless barrage of pre-game commercials made it seem like an event. But I was not aware of The Olympics year (or even that it was an Olympics Year) until a few days (well, maybe a few weeks) before their start. "Hey, let's watch The Olympics," is not what she said. It was more like, "Oh, The Olympics!" with some degree of excitement, as prelude to a short discussion in which it was agreed that The Olympics would be treated as an event and given the TV Watching Precedence it deserved. So, like any other media project, it would be much watching followed by a few short notes so as to valorize an activity about which I was to some degree indifferent. Throw a Ball Poorly? - or - Watch another THrow a Ball Expertly? I will refrain from commenting on the former and simply note that I have little need for the latter, given the provisio that we are talking about sporting events... individually and as a whole. # # # I've often thought it might be fun to watch football with someone who could provide meta-commentary. I don't want a play-by-play. I don't care about the game... not as such. But a deconstruction of strategy, the business of ball sports, and/or other side-ways concerns could be interesting. These are the types of plays. These are the defenses. Condensed down as far as possible. Maybe. Why Orange is a good uniform color? Most definitely. History? Nope. Individuals? No. All the brilliant things Vince Lombardi had to say? Sure. Maybe. How many brilliant things did he really say? Football as a Topological Problem? Oh, yes. Please. The relationship between Football and Snack Food (or alcoholic beverage) consumption? Yes. Really, I can go with most Dual Discipline Thesis. Well, maybe not most. But these types of Intellectual Papers are a good place to start: Grieving, Football, and The Snap Decision The High School Quarterback's Guide to Dating The Head Cheerleader The Backseat Quarterback's Guide to Fishing I guess, I went sort of non-serious. So: Sports Betting Sport Based Social Clubs Beer, Bratwurst, & Baseball The World Series: The Evolution of Cricket into a Major Social Event And now, the world calls. It is time to break where I might otherwise not. # # # Well, the world called hard enough that I don't feel like writing anymore, today. But I think I want to spend some time doing a word association list, at some later date. Ski Jump: The agony of defeat. Hurdles: Hard, though I was pretty good at this for a weekend or two one summer, before I forgot how Soccer, BMX, Skateboarding: Not Sports Baseball: Not an Olympic Sport Wrestling: Never Watch Weight Lifting: Oddly Interesting Track & Field: Usually moves too slow Swimming: Nah Horse Back Riding: I had high hopes, I like that iterod, skiing, shooting one Well, that's pretty good. Maybe I will be doing this now. Gymnastics = Summer Olympics Ski Jump or Slalom = Winter Olympics Men's Gymnastics: not really interested Eh, maybe the list is run out. I'd have to pull deep, which isn't the point. Darts: not a sport Pool: oddly soothing to watch Golf: I can't see the ball ever, so not interesting, it's a lot of sky shots, wherein I lose track of the ball To run fast or be a long distance runner is the most basic Olympic Skill I'd like. Though, Gymnastic Floor Dance (wearing combat boots, no less) figures into my daydreams. I'm having a hard time even listing Olympic Events; much less, identifying which ones I might want to watch. So, I think the list and needlessly long preamble (taking the place of the original project content) is long enough. # # # There was an intent. But there was no follow through on account of never being able to stream The Opening Ceremony or anything else. # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Raw Notes # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # OLYMPICS I expect to be more immersed in The 2021 Olympics than I otherwise might be. Wow! Talk about a neutral opening. 2021-07-11: Watch Virgin (technically a) Space Launch. Olympics come up. Decide to Stream. Decide on Project. Welcome to my 2021 Summer Olympic Project. If I make a note, here is where it will be. Freestyle! Eh, it's a bit early. But it will stand. The streaming quality of the opening ceremony is not as one might desire. It's basically a train wreck. I think we are pushing the festivities back. I don't know. I am not the principal driving force. BMX & Mountain Biking aren't exactly Classic Olympic Events. We are watching Five Minute Highlight Reels. I remain unmoved. 2021-08-15: Man, this could be a short project. It's over. I don't care. And I don't feel like I missed anything. I'll give the note a bit more time. But I do believe this one is dead in the water. Of course, a huge part of the disinterest comes from The Pathetic BMX Bike Showings... and a lack of (available, subscribed to) Real Time TV Coverage (along with absolutely No Social Media Presence on my part), allowing me to escape The Hype, completely. I would rather Run Fast than Swim Fast. I like imaging proficiency in Javelin, Shot Put, and Discus, on occasion. 2021-09-14: Declared Dead # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # I started writing Rants. Then, I started taking notes in preparation for a Rant. Now, I'm just doing notes instead of Rants: Quantity over Quality... and/or Quality of Life over Quantity of Output.
