It's more (much more) complicated than I would have expected. At what time is the garbage collected? At the start of collection? Mid-point? At finish? When is the finish? When the dumpster hits ground or when the truck leaves property? See? So many questions. {And this really is just the tip of the iceberg.} And it is my contention (belief, whatever) that it is only through the attempt to collect data that one can understand the difficulties involved... and tentativeness (wishful thinking, backfilling, once again, whatever) that data from other sources likely includes. Thus, for me, this project was not so much about Collection Times as The Difficulty in Recording Collection Times. # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Garbage Pick Up Out My Front Door 2021-07-31: 10:15AM: Garbage Let's see how many I notice and record; and what else finds its way into this list. Believe it or not, the sound is distinctive enough and the view out the window boring enough that this has become part of the scenery and ambiance. Back of Apartment Parking Lot Work Room Deliveries ?: Guess. For whatever reason. Unconfirmed. Assumed. Implied. 2021-08-05: 1:45PM? In this case, I was preoccupied and did not look out window, but heard appropriate sounds. 2021-08-07: 7:35AM: Garbage. I heard the sounds, was preoccupied, and only looked out the window so as to confirm data for note. Times will be when I make the note. For instance, I could have backdated the above by a few minutes. But I will not bother. Instead, let us assume a truck is/was on the premises at the appointed hour {per driver's schedule}. Whether it still is or will be {when I make note} is another matter. 7:46AM: Leaving {see note above or which this is a continuation}. I'm guessing a phone call, break, or text message took place. Hey, could have been a potty, sandwich, or food prep break. But my guess is that a phone was involved. I did not see or make note. I'm extrapolating an explanation for those intervening eleven minutes. Data Collection Is Fun! 2021-08-11: 11:02AM: Garbage. In and Out, this time. He's out of a job once The Robots Come Online. 2021-08-14: 9:18AM. 2021-08-19: 12:42PM: In the rain. 3021-08-20: 9:00AM. 2021-08-24: 12:38PM: Recycling. The truck comes in the opposite way, against traffic. There's one big (standard size) dumpster (not too big, not too small) and maybe ten recycling cans, similar to a curbside garbage can (standard, regular, large). One of these days (perhaps really soon), I'll count them recycling bins. There are an even dozen recycling bins, each of which seems like it could hold (at least) 55 Gallons: a 55 Gallon (or are those just fifty gallon) Barrel being the closest standard measure... by my eye, at least. Though, I would put them larger. Like, it seems like they could hold the contents of a barrel, even if a barrel would not drop down all the way. Clearly, I'm not curious enough to look the facts up. It would take a measuring tape. Let us guess they are 96 Gallons: the largest standard size. 2021-08-26: 2:17PM: Having shared the nature of the project, I was alerted to this pick-up by another. Should I include Garbage Runs? Sounds tedious. But then, I'd just do it for a shorter interval. I question whether a haphazard measure is of any worth. How's that for spot-on accuracy? 2021-09-08: 12:17PM: Recycling. I heard him pull up. "He's totally going the wrong way." He/She? 12:28? But I could not find the will to mark the time or make a note. This Project Is Over. # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # 2021-09-27 (c) Copyright Brett Paufler #EOF / End of File
